Feeling fatigue with achey joints or concerned about your risk for Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s? YOu may benefit from Chelation – the process of binding toxins in our bodies and eliminating them. It is important to undergo chelation with a qualified Doctor, as this process necessitates close monitoring and supervision.
What is Chelation Therapy?
Chelation therapy is Heavy Metal Detoxification. There are no safe levels for heavy metals and other toxins commonly found in the human body. The presence of heavy metals correlates with increased risk of chronic disease, notably neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s, etc.
Based on your current symptoms, environmental exposures, family and personal health history, our qualified Naturopathic Doctors will provide you with a comprehensive chelation protocol, including timelines and reassessment to ensure that the chelation process is effective.
Based off of a thorough review of your clinical history and current symptoms, heavy metal testing may be recommended. If laboratory results indicate an heavy metal excess, most commonly Mercury, Lead or Aluminum, chelation will be recommended.
How does it work?
Various chelating agents will be used, either intravenously (IV) and or orally, including EDTA, DMSA, DMPS, Malic Acid and other natural agents, to bind heavy metals and other toxins that are currently stored in fat, bone, brain and other tissues in the body.
Your Naturopathic Doctor will assess your current level of heavy metals to decide which specific chelating agents are indicated for you. Chelating agents bind not only toxins, but also vitamins and minerals in the process of detoxifying your body. As such, our comprehensive chelation program involves IV nutrient repletion as well as oral supplementation so you maintain healthy mineral and vitamin levels to support your body during the detoxification process.
Our Doctors monitor you closely and adjust your protocol as needed.
When is Chelation indicated?
Symptoms of heavy metal excess vary widely and may involve:
- Autoimmune Disease
- Parkinson’s and other nervous system disorders
- Abdominal pain
- Central nervous system dysfunction
- Heart problems
- *Asymptomatic – you may not have any symptoms even with a toxic level of heavy metals in your body. Symptoms occur after the onset of chronic disease.
- **Symptoms will vary depending on the organs affected, the amount of metals as well as your overall health status.
Is Chelation Safe?
Our proprietary chelation programs are safe and effective. Not all patients will qualify for IV chelation, as it is taxing on the body and if other disease processes are present it may not be currently clinically indicated. Oral chelation is often better tolerated, but is limited in individuals who are currently experiencing malabsorption or other significant digestive disease. Patients may experience side effects from chelation, including dehydration, fatigue, joint aches, etc. These symptoms will monitored and supported to make the chelation process as comfortable and effective as possible.
Your treatment plan is customized to you and includes close monitoring with laboratory assessments and symptom tracking to safely detoxify your body giving you freedom from debilitating symptoms and peace of mind knowing you’re risk factors for chronic disease have decreased.
Why do I need Chelation?
Toxins, including heavy metals, build up in your body from exposures in our environment. We live in an increasingly toxic world where our bodies are more and more burdened and our natural detoxification mechanisms become overwhelmed and inefficient. Our bodies store heavy metals and other chemicals in our tissues so we don’t experience the debilitating symptoms of toxicity. This is correlated with an increased risk of chronic diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Dementia, Parkinson’s, Diabetes, and others even if no symptoms currently are present. Detoxifying your body of heavy metals and other toxins is key to maintaining your health and longevity.
